Tell us about yourself?

I founded my first first company at the age of 13 and many more have followed. My big passion is changing the status quo with technology and innovation.

Over the years I was able to gain a lof of experience from marketing, change management, and digital product and strategy development to platforms and complex ecosystems.

This also lead to my desire to share all of these information and experiences I gathered and why I have shared more than 400+ publictions so far.

As keynote speaker I commonly speak on topics such as innovation, leadership, entrepreneurship, start-up, and new technologies and advise governments, EU commissions, and ministries on topics of education, economic development, digitalization, and the future. Since 2017, I am the founder and CEO of MoreThanDigital, which has become one of the world’s largest initiatives for digitalization, innovation, and topics of the future.

Next to this, I also try to make an impact by being a member of the Board of Berlin University of Digital Science, Member of the Advisory Council of the Harvard Business Review, Member of the Swiss Digital Society Initiative, Member of the MIT Tech Review, Steering Committee member of the Internet Governance Forum and member of the EU Commission’s Digital Skills and Jobs Initiative.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Don’t listen too much on others who don’t understand your vision.

What problem does your business solve?

Principle agent problem for getting knowledge, business tools and education. We look for highly scalabe solutions to help companies in the use of technology and innovation without the high entry bar.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

I wanted to change how businesses can access innovation. For most companies its impossible to have dozens of consultants in house or get information on the internet without being sold out.

After years of working with ministries and advising economic development initiative, I found out that also the governments are too slow despite the possibility to help tousands of companies with simple means.

So I decided to take the neutral blog and set up a neutral organization that focuses on briding the gap so everyone gets a chance to participate in the digital transition of our economy.

What is your magic sauce?

#bethechange – Since the early days of MoreThanDigital we were focusing on our basic credo to enable people to make a difference. This strong commitment and our very focused “No Bullshit, No Marketing” credo lead to a strong reputation and a brand which is trusted by millions.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

First we want to scale the platform into more languages and also launch our MoreThanDigital Insights platform. Already over 150+ ministries, eu bodies, organizations, institutions and economic development partners are waiting to launch this platform with us.

If everything goes right MoreThanDigital Academy and TechValley will follow soon to give more people access to innvation and especially education.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Bootstrapping a platform – Platforms are one of the most difficult business models as they need a lot of investment and time to slowly build up.

I figured also out that building a digital ecosystem is even more challenging as people don’t know how it works and therefore you have to explain and argue a lot with different stakeholders about the future vision of MoreThanDigital without sacrificing the core value.

It was also indeed a big fight to keep our “No Bullshit, No Marketing” credo alive. It is totally different and this makes it on the one hand unique but also opens up a lot of criticism as many want to change this model.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

#bethechange was of course a strong driver and we offered a lot of value for free for a lot of people. That meant that we were giving them a lot from our side, the investment in our mission/vision but also community was big but also our core. It was actually really great to see what can be done when you align great people under a common vision.
