Bertrand Giorgi: Tebrito Is Upcycling Biomass Into Sustainable Nutrition for Plants, Animals and Humans

Tebrito is a Swerdish impact driven startup. We upcycle biomass into sustainable nutrition for plants, animals and humans.

Q: Tell us about yourself?

I am French and started working in the UK before a carrer in management consulting that took me to Sweden. With Tebrito I see an opportunity to work hands with impact and sustainability.

Q: What is the inspiration behind your business?

With all humility we did not invent anything we just copy Nature’s ability to upcycle biomass into nutrition. Insects have a fantastic ability to turn non-food residual strems into high quality protein, we make this industrial to generate impact: a kilo ediable protei from mealworms has the same amino-acid profile index as beef but for just a fraction of the emissions and resources demands. We thus offer sustainable protein for farmers that need sustainable solutions to feed their livestock or for food manufactures that want to satisfy their customers with sustanaible food innovation.

Q: What is your magic sauce?

Insect protein companies are now aplenty throughout Europe, most of them are focussed on Feed or niche or low end segments of the Food arket. Tebrito has uncovered a unique protein extraction process that results in a highly concentrated (88%) protein ingredient that is shelf-stable and free from smell, taste or colour. Literaly plug & play sustainable protein for food manufacturing.

Q: Where do you see your company going in 5 years?

In the medium-term Tebrito will be reinforcing it’s blueprint throughout Scandinavia with a balance of growth sites and post-processing sites to rationalise its supply chain and ensure that sustainable protein is affordable. Cost are key to widespread utilisation and scale generates impact.

Q: What has been your biggest setback so far?

The legislation around insect-protein was a hard nut to crack but things are going the right way now.

Q: What is the next big challenge for your business?

Tebrito needs to balance capital requirements for fast-paced scale up and delivers on the commercial front too, while measuring its impact.

Q: How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

Tebrito is always on the lookoot for partners big and small: talented individuals to join our team or startup, public agencies or corporates that can be part of our ecosystem to accelerate the transition towards a more sustanaible food production system.
