Emil Esselin: Access Beats Ownership and Brick Technology Provides Software, Products, a Strong Brand

We believe sharing is the future. We don’t have the space in our life or on earth to own everything little device or gadget we need on a daily basis.

Access beats ownership and Brick Technology provides software, products, a strong brand and a full range of services to entrepreneurs wanting to bring power bank sharing to their country.

We believe the sharing economy can reach its full potential with a perfect mix between a global brand and resources and a strong local connection.

Tell us about yourself?

After studying economics and marketing and spending time at the most prestigious agencies in Sweden I wanted to create something by myself and for myself.

Spending my free time in the summers organizing high tech music and art festivals made me sure I wanted to combine my love of cutting edge technology with creating something from scratch. I also believe sharing is a key for the future; We don’t need to own every single little gadget or trinket we might use once or twice a week.

That’s why I started a huge facebook group some years ago where people could easily connect and borrow things from each other. Simply, Access beats ownership. I then took this idea with me to Brick and to the idea of sharing technology and knowledge and creating something in collaboration with all our partners around the world.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

Brick came to be in Sweden in 2019 after an unfortunate incident with a new app-controlled apartment lock, a dead phone, and a cold night.

The ambition is to bring power banks to people who forgot to bring a charger, don’t want to buy one, or simply want to get on with their day even when the phone’s dying. With the Brick app you can find venues with charging stations where you can rent a Brick power bank and charge on-the-go.

In today’s mobile and digital world there’s a need for portable chargers everywhere. Therefore, we decided to bring our solution to anyone who wants to take Brick to their part of the world. With our turnkey solution, anyone in the world is ready to start their own sharing business instantly.

What is your magic sauce?

Our solution involves everything from software and hardware development and logistics to sales and operational support and branding and marketing.

Simply put, anyone launching Brick in their region only has to focus on growing their own business with local sales and operations. We believe you have the local knowledge and connections to grow your business in the most efficient way, everything else is up to us. Our close cooperation with you allows us to customize and improve based on local needs.

Where do you see your company going in 5 years time?

Our vision is to be the infrastructure for the shared future, enabling the launch and operation of any sharing economy application – by anyone, anywhere.

What has been your biggest setback so far?

As with almost every other business in the world our biggest challenge these last few years can be summed up in one word: Covid. Power bank sharing relies on having charging stations available in public spaces and businesses such as restaurants, bars, stores and train stations etc. Global lockdowns have of course affected this.

What is the next big challenge for your business?

What, really, is better to own instead of having it available exactly when you need it? Who knows what we won’t have to own in the future? We are always looking for what our future needs are in the world of sharing. What we can avoid buying in the future and instead have available whenever we need it.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

If you want to launch Brick in your country you can contact us at Brick , we are always looking to grow our network.
