Tell us about yourself?
I´m a Master of Science in Food Marketing from University on Helsinki. I have worked over 25 years in advertising and branding being a partner and CEO of several ad agencies. I founded Carrot Kitchen 4 years ago with a consumer insight specialist Piritta Koivisto.
I have two adult sons, Kalle and Pekka. When they left the nest I recalled what life skills they have got from home. I concluded that they will survive. They can both cook and have healthy life styles.
Unfortunately there are millions of family who can´t pass these life skills for their kids. Carrot Revolution was founded to open the kitchen doors for every kid so they get sustainable building blocks for a good life.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
Kids food-related problems are huge and has even worsened in due of Covid 19. Unsustainable diets and childhood obesity cause enormous costs to societies and have negative impact on our planet.
There are a lot of studies indicating that cooking skills learned in early age are related to later diet quality and food sustainability. Children who cook are more willing to eat vegetables, are more confident and have more positive emotions.
But how to get kids cooking? We think the answer is simple. Let’s make cooking fun and easy – and let’s offer good screen time at the same time. Apps are the best way to teach kids new things.
What is your magic sauce?
Carrot Kitchen app combines three things: Finnish food education, game-like cooking experience and kids as active doers. We have already over 100 step-by-step video recipes in the app guided by kids and lot of skills videos. All the recipes are created by our food education experts and there is always a vegetarian choice available – sustainability has an important role.
Where do you see your company going in 5 years time?
Our vision is to be the most impactful and fun kids´ cooking and wellbeing brand in the world. We aim to create a community which inspires and brings kids all over the world together through cooking and having fun. In the same we build happy and healthy kids, happy and healthy planet.
What has been your biggest setback so far?
I don´t know if this is a setback but it has been challenging to build brand awareness and create organic growth with very limited budget. Our conversion rate from trials to subs is an excellent 70 % but the challenge is top of the funnel ie. how to reach masses and get download and trials.
What is the next big challenge for your business?
To raise 1,5 m€ seed funding in next 4 months in order to scale business and launch app to the UK and US markets.
How do people get involved/buy into your vision?
We want to partnership with brands and retailers which share our values and are willing to raise new and sustainable food generation with us!
